Tanzania safari accommodation consists of a mix of bush lodges, tented camps and mobile camps. Clients have the option of resort or hotel-style accommodation found on the island of Zanzibar and in the cities. Accommodation options vary from a three to five-star level, with the smaller and more exclusive properties being more costly. Tanzanian camps and lodges are run by local Tanzanians, known for their warm-heartedness and hospitable spirit.
When designing a Tanzanian Safari, there are some decisions to make: The first is whether you want a private safari or a group safari.A shared east African safari in Tanzania is a great way to meet new people and reduce costs but (unless you are traveling alone) we usually recommend a private safari because the price difference is not very significant (sometimes none at all) and you’d be able to benefit from full itinerary customization, travel at your own rhythm and pace and have more free space in the car. In fact, we specialize in tailor made safaris.
Tanzania safari accommodation
A lodge safari can provide some of the most luxurious experiences in the world while still maintaining its traditional allure
The second decision is whether you want to camp in budget public campsites or stay in luxury tented camps/lodges.This decision will depend on both your budget and comfort requisites. When you contact us to plan your safari, we will suggest different accommodation options for each park, recommending those we believe have the best quality for their price-range.
A simple camping safari, besides helping to control the budget, can be an exciting and fun experience. On the other hand, staying in a private tented camp or lodge can provide some of the most luxury experiences in the World while still maintaining a safari’s traditional allure and feeling of authenticity. You can take a look at some of the camps and lodges that we use more often, for our Tanzania tour holidays
Tanzania safari accommodation options
When you choose your accommodation in Tanzania, we can suggest a variety of places to stay that range from luxury properties to family-run guesthouses and hotels in restored historic buildings. They all come recommended by our specialists from their own experience of staying there. Using the filters below you can refine the accommodation options to the places you’re planning to visit.
We believe in smaller and more intimate Tanzania safari lodge styles. KIAfrica Adventure recommends safari lodges that are of a mass tourist nature and only in certain areas do hotels have more than 15 rooms. There are a limited number of large properties that reflect resort style accommodation; these are generally found on the island of Zanzibar and not on the safari circuits.
Many of the camps we recommend will have no more than 8 rooms or tents (limiting the maximum amount of people to 16) as this leads to an interpersonal and engaging safari experience Safari lodges in Tanzania vary greatly from a three to five star level, with the smaller and more exclusive properties being more costly.
Luxury tented camps come in various levels of luxury and styles. The common denominator is the eco-friendly, solar powered, canvas tents offering an authentic bush experience. Enjoy sunsets around a camp fire and feel at one with nature.
Some tented camps are designed specifically to be lightweight and mobile, in order to follow the wildebeest migration.
Permanent lodges offer a more fixed infrastructure with additional amenities such as a swimming pool and spa. These lodges are also recommended when traveling with children under the age of 10 years as they are very child friendly.
Budget Camping
Campsites are the most basic of accommodation in terms of facilities and amenities. There are public and private campsites. At public campsites you might have to share the site with other travellers. There is an ablution block with showers and toilets. While you share the ablution block with other campers, showers and toilets are arranged as single cabins. Dome tents usually have simple beds/mattresses with linen and duvets. There will be a kitchen block where meals are prepared and your camping crew will wash the dishes
Beach Resort
Round off your safari with a beach holiday at the Indian ocean Island of Zanzibar, Pemba Island, Mafia Island or the Tanzanian coast. All resorts are superbly located and offer white sandy beaches. Unwind entirely and experience a high level of service, excellent facilities, beautiful surroundings and exciting activities. We highly recommend that you end your safari or trekking holiday with a few days on the beautiful white sandy beaches of the Tanzanian coast.
We often like to offer a mixture of various accommodation concepts on a safari in order for our guests to appreciate the nature, comfort and luxury that lodges and camps in Tanzania offer, while experiencing the adventure of spending a few nights under canvas.
